Kate Offer

Highly Experienced Neurodivergent Tutor

Qualifications

I am highly experienced neurodivergent teacher and tutor. I hold a BA (Hons) in Primary Education from Canterbury Christ Church University, specialising in German and Early Years and graduated in 2009. In addition, I have earned a Middle Management Certificate in education and I am currently working towards my Level 2 certificate in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)

Professional Development

Committed to ongoing professional growth, I regularly engage in training to stay current with educational best practice. I have achieved certificates in sign language, which I use in my teaching to enhance communication and inclusion, and I am working towards a qualification in proofreading. I also frequently undertake training in safeguarding, special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and the effective use of digital tools for learning.

Teaching and Tutoring Experience

After spending 11 years as a classroom teacher and English subject lead across a range of schools, I transitioned to online teaching in 2019. Since then, I have tutored numerous children both online and in person. My experience includes planning and delivering English and Maths curricula for children aged 5 to 11 in home tutoring groups, tutoring teenagers in preparation for their English GCSEs and IELTS exams, preparing EAL young adults for job interviews and teaching creative and essay writing skills to children around the world.

About me

I have a particular interest in working with children who have additional needs, including those who are neurodivergent. I invest considerable time in getting to know each student individually—their interests, strengths, challenges, and aspirations—ensuring that every lesson and scheme of work is tailored to the individual child. My creative teaching approach incorporates songs, games, and interactive online activities, making learning both effective and enjoyable.

Outside of my professional life, I am a busy mum to two young children. I have a passion for music, enjoying both playing and listening to it. My favourite genres are rock and indie and I often dance around the house with my children, inventing fun routines! Musically I play the guitar, some piano, and the violin, and I sing and conduct with my local choir. In my spare time, I enjoy baking gluten free cakes and I am an enthusiastic runner, having completed the London Marathon in 2019 and hoping to participate again next year.

Session type

Most of my lessons are delivered online via Zoom due to scheduling considerations. However, I am able to provide lessons in the child's own home on specific days and times, which will include an additional petrol charge.
